Guest Teaching - Queer Dance Project Intro to Contemporary Modern Workshop

This introductory workshop is great for beginning and intermediate movers, those who are new to modern dance, and those who have some experience… and it is geared toward LGBTQIA+ movers! The workshop will include a body-centering warm-up, technical exercises, simple traveling patterns, and combining sequences from class into fun and expressive combinations. The workshop is taught from a somatic and anatomical base and is very gender-neutral in movement style. Exercises will include movement from both parallel and turned out positions, movement on the floor, various uses of the spine, and practices that include small, gestural, large, and traveling phrases, along with various uses of different qualities of movement. Ballet and jazz lovers will find some familiar vocabulary and movement in the class and also some new terms and concepts unique to contemporary modern dance.
