Description:

Methods of Making: solo investigation is a dance composition workshop that will focus on the art of generating a solo with the support, encouragement, and feedback from a cohort of artists. Class will begin with a guided warm-up, and then transition into what feels like a rehearsal. Dancers will be given prompts to spark the body-mind into action. Through facilitated discussions, progress showings within the cohort, and the use of Liz Lerman’s Critical Response Process, participants will come out of the workshop with a rough draft of a new work, tools for generating future material, and new relationships with fellow artists. My hope is that this class will create a space for those of us missing the creative process and rehearsal environment, create an opportunity for dancers to experiment with generating material in a low-stakes setting, and inspire fast and curious dance-making. This class is open to anyone with the desire to create movement-based work.
