About the company

Evolving Doors Dance cultivates, collaborates, builds community, educates, and performs while nurturing the art of dance and movement and its place in our world. The company works to present politically motivated, professional, relevant, accessible, contemporary modern dance. As EDD’s work paints pictures only bodies and spacial relationships can conjure, it uses dance as a medium to bring human and social awareness to its audience and its community–both locally and nationally. The company presents dance woven with political impressions, born from visions of equality, and filled with unmistakably universal human connections and themes that cross lines of sex, gender, ethnicity, and class. From the interaction of an intimate duet to echoes of the call for equal rights, performances seek to evoke, engage and evolve. Dances often strive to spark engagement in ways that create questions, uncover fears, investigate relationships, question behaviors and promote self-examination. Ultimately, Evolving Doors Dance connects with people through dance and uses dance and the body as the ultimate expression of artistic, political and social ideas and views.  EDD is a queer-run organization that works toward queer visibility in the arts and in dance, creating safe and welcoming spaces and opportunities for GLBTQ movers in the Denver Metro.

Evolving Doors & the Community...

Evolving Doors Dance strives to bolster, reflect, and inform it’s community. We believe our community provides not only support, but also unending inspiration for the dance work we create. We are continually working to find new ways to be involved with and connected to our community and other arts communities around the nation. Former performance projects have included pieces created around and centered on unique community members with unique stories to share in dance form! We also strive to make performances, workshops, and events accessible by providing complimentary and/or discounted tickets/registration for local groups such as Boulder Pride House, the Open Door Fund, La Luna Center for Eating Disorder Treatment, Boulder County AIDS Project, and Boulder’s PFLAG Organization (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays). EDD has recently begun working with The People’s Building in Aurora, CO, to build the presence of professional dance arts in the Aurora Arts District. Pre-Civid season events at this location were to include community youth workshops of multidisciplinary arts and site specific performances arounds Aurora.  While this is not currently able to continue, we look forward to re-imagining and remounting these projects and events in the near future.  While we are currently limited in our outreach into the community during this pandemic, we are regularly making donations from our class proceeds to local Denver organizations working for social change. Recent donations include The Center on Colfax (Denver’s GLBTQ resource center), YAASPA (Denver’s Young Aspiring Americans for Social and Political Change), Denver’s Creative Strategies for Change, and the GoFundMe for Sheenan McClain.   Feel free to join us in support of these orgs and efforts but clicking the links above.
